Sabian, founded in 1980 in Meductic, New Brunswick, Canada, is one of the largest cymbal design and manufacturers in the world. The company was formed by Robert Zildjian, the son of Avedis Zildjian III who owned the Avedis Zildjian Company. Zildjian is the oldest cymbal manufacturer and the Zildjian family has been crating cymbals for almost 400 years. Avedis III died in 1979 and his son Armand took over the company. There was an argument between the two brothers Armand and Robert over who should be in control of Zildjian. This argument led to Robert leaving Zildjian and starting his own cymbal company, which he named Sabian.
Today, Sabian competes with Zildjian as one of the largest cymbal manufactures in the world. They offer a variety of cymbal types, from entry level beginner series to professional new rock styles and specialty vintage sets. The entry level series are called Bronze Beginnings. These are the B8 and B8 Pro. The more professional quality cymbals from Sabian come in two different styles, one producing traditional cymbal tones and the other geared towards more modern rock cymbal sounds. The vintage series are the HH and AA series of cymbals. The modern style include the Xs20, APX, AAX, and HHX. Sabian also offers two custom cymbal lines, the Paragon series and the Vault series. The Paragon series is a special set of cymbals created for Neil Peart, the drummer for Rush. The Vault series is another custom line that are developed for other various current artists.
