Sabian is one of the largest cymbal design and manufactureres in the world. They were founded in 1980 in Meductic, New Brunswick, Canada by Robert Zildjian. Robert was the son of Avedis Zildjian III who owned the Avedis Zildjian Company. Zildjian is the oldest cymbal manufacturer and the Zildjian family has been crating cymbals for almost 400 years. After an argument in the family over who was to take over ownership in Zildjian, Robert left and traveled to Canada to start his own cymbal business, which he named Sabian. Today, Sabian competes with Zildjian as one of the largest cymbal manufactures in the world. They offer a variety of cymbal types, from entry level beginner series to professional new rock styles and specialty vintage sets.
A splash cymbal is a specialized type of crash cymbal that can provide more variation in a drummers kit. They range from 6″ – 12″ and have a high pitch, low volume, and short sustain. Splash cymbals are often used in unison with a snare drum or tom drum strike as an accent. You can also use a splash cymbal as your primary crash cymbal in low volume situations. Splash cymbals can be mounted with a traditional cymbal stand however because of their smaller size, they are often mounted with smaller boom arm attachments that allow better placement with less hardware in a drum set. Splash cymbals can also be mounted inverted on top of a traditional crash cymbal. This conserves space and also provides a different look to your cymbal setup.
