Tama Superstar drum sets are one of the intermediate level series of kids manufactured by Tama. Superstar sets use a hybrid birch/basswood shell design and heavy duty hardware. The Superstar and other Tama intermediate level series of drums called Imperialstar were the premiere drum sets the produced by Tama in the 70s and 80s. Tama then started to make a professional quality line of drum sets keeping the Superstar and Imperialstar as the semi-professional options. Some of the original Tama Superstar drum sets have become quite popular as collectors items. Tama Superstar drum sets are today being manufactured in Tama facilities in China.
